It may be one of the hottest summers on record, but registrations are already stacking up for the Seaford Striders’ Mince Pie 10 mile race on December 9, 2018.

With more than 100 registrations already received, runners are being encouraged to sign up early for the event, voted one of the UK’s top ten races by Runners World magazine.
The Mince Pie 10 is organised annually by the Seaford Striders to raise funds for local charities and the running club itself. The race is sponsored by long standing supporter David Jordan Estate Agents.

This year’s race will be run in support of Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV Sussex). SERV is run by volunteers, who provide a free night time and weekend service to NHS hospitals across Sussex transporting organs, blood products, patient notes and other urgent consignments between hospitals. The service eliminates costly transport bills, allowing hospitals to focus resources on patient care.
The undulating course – a mixture of four on-road and six off-road miles – takes in the beautiful countryside scenery around Telscombe and Saltdean. The race is open to runners of all abilities aged 17 plus, although the route is unsuitable for wheelchair users. With an entrant’s limit of just 600, the race is frequently a sell-out, so early registration is recommended.

Mince Pie race organiser, Terry Ward, said: “Many runners return year after year to take on the Mince Pie 10 mile challenge. It’s open to all runners of all abilities – whether you’re aiming for your fastest time, want a festive workout in a Santa suit, or are running as part of a team of elves. Last year’s event was sold out by October, so we’re advising runners to sign up early to avoid disappointment.”

The race starts and finishes at the Peacehaven Leisure Centre at 11am. Runners can sign up online at https://www.nice-work.org.uk/races/the-mince-pie-10-mile.
Race photographers Sussex Sport Photography will be on hand to capture the action. The race will be marshaled by Seaford Striders with plentiful water stations along the route. All finishers will receive a medal, goody bag and a mince pie. There will also be spot prizes and a raffle.

Pre-and post-race massage will be available, along with sports clothing, footwear and equipment from sports specialists InterSport.
