STRIDERS PRESENTATION EVENING entered 06-Feb-2010

The annual opportunity to see why Seaford Striders will never win any prizes for fashion sense or rhythm was held at Seaford Con Club at the end of January. It was also used as a chance to present the 2009 trophies, with special guest, Eric Hardwick. To see a photographic record of the evening visit the photo gallery.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS entered 11-Jan-2010

NYD2010A motley group of Striders turned up for the annual New Year's Day Run on Seaford seafront (what do you mean annual New Year's Day Run? How many times a year can you hold it?) Our roving reporter, Richard Honeyman, was on hand to capture the moment for posterity (or at least until it gets taken off the website). Eagle eyed Striders can try and work out which one is Keyser Soze. (It's Kevin Spacey and he doesn't have a limp either! (What's a limp either? Is it some sort of medical condition?)) For more photos of the day click here

STRIDERS WIVES entered 11-Jan-2010

Striders WivesThe recent spate of snow has tempted some hot totty, in the form of Shirley Bulger and Caroline Veale, out onto the slopes of High & Over, where they indulged in uninhibited cold weather romping with a sledge and plenty of thermals.

Unfortunately a freelance paparazzi was on hand to capture the momenti n the guise of Mr Bob Eade, who couldn't wait to invade their privacy and take a candid photo for the newspapers. After a long round of hefty negotiations, in which some out of date luncheon vouchers and a signed copy of Runners World August 1993 changed hands, we managed to secure the exclusive rights (left).

STRIDERS MEMBERSHIP FEES entered 08-Jan-2010

Membership fees for the wonderful Striders, which are due now, have been increased this year. This is the first increase in fees for several years and still represents excellent value for money. Linda Jennings is eagerly awaiting your money now.

LONDON TO BRIGHTON 2009 entered 22-Sep-2009

STOP PRESS: Photos from the day now available online. - Click Here

The London to Brighton Road Race used to be one of the toughest challenges in the racing calendar, until 2006 when, sadly, safety and the sheer logistical exercise of organising it became too great. But then in 2008 someone had the bright idea of resurrecting it, and just to make it harder, they decided to send the runners across country, with just a few segments of map to guide them.

Naturally you would need to be completely off your trolley to attempt such a feat, so, of course, last Sunday found Gary Hatcher and Nicki Brenchley lined up at 6am with over 250 others on Nicki's LegBlackheath to run the 56 miles to Brighton. Nicki & Gary At The FinishUnfortunately disaster struck after two miles when Nicki tore her calf muscle (see right), but being a physiotherapist she completely ignored all her professional teaching and advice and carried on running. As a result she and Gary moved steadfily and relentlessly through the field, eventually arriving on Madeira Drive in Brighton just over 9 hours and 50 minutes later. And not only did they complete the course in fine style, but Gary was a superb 5th overall and Nicki was 6th overall and 1st woman. This was a tremendous physical achievement by both these runners and I, for one, felt privileged to witness it.
