Hi Everyone,

Over the last couple of years members have asked for a Striders day out that actually involves running (and walking).
So this year we have listened and put together a challenge for everyone to enjoy.

On August 6th/7th you are invited to undertake the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.

This is a nationally recognised challenge in which you have 12 hours to complete the 24 miles (38.6k).
The route is a loop that takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent (2,277 ft), Whernside (2,415ft) and Ingleborough 2,372).
These peaks form part of the Penine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

For those aspiring to run the route the record is 2 hours, 46 minutes, 3 seconds set in 1996.
The women’s record of 3 hours, 9 minutes, 19 seconds was set in 2017.

Of course the idea is for you to enjoy the challenge and complete it within the 12 hours which is an average of just 2 miles per hour (30 minute miles). You can achieve this by walking, running or a little of both.

The challenge starts and finishes in Horton-In-Ribblesdale and on completion you may like to have a drink and perhaps a meal at The Old Hill Inn (01524 241256) their cooking is exceptional.

During the challenge we suggest:

– Drinking water throughout, snacks such as fruit, nuts cereal bars and pasta.
– Hiking boots or trail shoes are a must, lightweight rain jacket (just in case).
– Also recommended is a change of clothes for the journey home.
