Seaford Striders brought a little sparkle to Peacehaven parkrun on Saturday May 19. The event was a double celebration – as well as being the first birthday of the popular parkrun, it was also the morning of the Royal Wedding. Ten Striders competed, with many donning tiaras for the 5k run.
Chairman Rob Plant took his celebratory outfit a little further, running his 5k as a princess in 33:55. And thanks to Tony and his trusty camera, we’re able to share the moment…
Q: Rob, who or what persuaded you to dress up in that rather fetching costume?
A: The costume thing started as a bit of banter on the Striders Car Share WhatsApp Group. Someone suggested I wear a dress and I stupidly replied “I’d do it in a tutu and tiara.” The rest is history.
Q: You’ve been chairman for nearly three months… was this sort of thing in the job description?
A: I’m delighted this sort of thing comes up. It proves we are a fun club – and being the Chairman is fun too!
Q: What are the three best things about being a Strider?
A: 1)Amazing support for all abilities of runner, 2) The camaraderie and amazing team spirit and 3) WE HAVE FUN!
Q: Did you really meet Paul Sinton-Hewitt, founder of parkrun, dressed like that?
A: I most definitely did meet the founder of Parkrun dressed as a princess. The look on his face was a picture.
